"Christmas won't be Christmas without any presents."
- Louisa May Alcott

TORONTO, ON… Stage Centre Productions is pleased to present the stage dramatization of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. Little Women is the classic story that has entertained and moved generations of audiences with the travails of the March family with their loves and loyalties. From Marmee to her wonderful girls Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy – who can forget the stories of this special family. The stage adaptation of this literary masterpiece will be the must see event of the holiday season.

The four March sisters come of age against the backdrop of a nation forever changed by the Civil War. While their father serves in the conflict, the sisters—dutiful Meg, fiery Jo, gentle Beth, and fanciful Amy—are guided on a journey of growth and experience by their spirited mother. Little Women is the story of a loving and unconventional family welcoming life's joys and bravely facing life's sorrows. In part autobiographical, this is an important historical portrait of young women growing up in a post-war American society of strong traditions and modern freedoms.

Drawing from her childhood in a close-knit and unique family from Concord, Massachusetts, Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888) created a beloved collection of works about young people coming of age in the post Civil-War era. Alcott's books for young adults, among them Little Women, Jo's Boys, Under the Lilacs, and An Old-Fashioned Girl, are noted for their wholesome themes. However, she was a multi-faceted writer who also dabbled in a more grown-up genre. Sometimes published under a pseudonym or anonymously, Alcott's alternative body of work consists of "less respectable" and torrid romances, mysteries, and thrillers such as A Long Fatal Love Chase, A Modern Mephistopheles, and Behind a Mask.

Joining director/designer L. Garth Allen are repertory company members Debbie Yuen as Marmee, Sara VanBuskirk as Jo, Irit Shomrony as Amy, Amber Steinman as Meg, Liza Lubalin as Beth, Margaret Hughes as Aunt March, Will van der Zyl as John Brooke, Ivan Trinier as Laurie, and Robert Glen as Father March.

Stage Centre Productions, under the founding artistic leadership of L. Garth Allen, is a 60-person strong repertory company of Toronto area artists committed to presenting the classics from the world theatre canon.
