Mark your calendar for the sixth annual “Little Italy Days” Festival on September 28, 29 and 30. This year you can listen to the wonderful Italian music from the new park next to Fifth Third Bank at the corner of Cedarville and Liberty. Expect lots of music, food, games, more food and other fun activities amidst Bloomfield’s unique shops and dozen or so fine restaurants.

The 2007 festival features free activities and entertainment for young and old.

Musical groups will perform on the Main Stage at Liberty and Cedarville, along with strolling musicians throughout the weekend. Other activities range from a bocce tournament and a pizza eating contest to an Italian mass and street procession.

The festival attracts between 10 and 12 thousand people from all over the region, and in 2004 won the Mainstreets Pittsburgh “Special Events” Award.

Produced by the Bloomfield Business Association, this event helps to nurture Bloomfield’s Little Italy identity, to promote family values and the community to the region, and to encourage people to live, work, shop and play here in the future.

According to Tony Ferraro, VP Iron City Brewing Company, “As we move forward, it is important that we continue to look back and celebrate the cultures that have made Pittsburgh and Bloomfield what it is today… From residents, businesses and community organizations, the participation and enthusiasm for this event is astounding…”

PA Senator Jim Ferlo builds on this sentiment, saying “The festival is a great source of pride and an annual attraction that helps project the vitality and viability of our neighborhoods… There is no single event that draws such strong community and business district cooperation…”

Major Sponsors of “Little Italy Days” include Mainstreets Pittsburgh, West Penn Hospital, Don Allen Auto City, Comcast and PNC Bank. Other support comes from First Commonwealth Bank, Citizens Bank, Pittsburgh Brewing Company, Pittsburgh Roars and Friends of Dan Onorato.
