He’s a Grammy Award winning singer, songwriter and producer who has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. Contemporary R&B superstar Lionel Richie has just announced he will be stopping in the Palm Springs area for a concert at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on Saturday, February 19, 2011. The former member of The Commodores who went on to mega stardom in the 1980s and beyond takes the stage inside the Fantasy Springs Special Events Center at 8:00p.m. This show makes a perfect belated Valentine’s Day gift for that special someone. Lionel Richie hit it big in 1982 with his self-titled debut album. His single, “Truly,” launched his career as one of the most successful balladeers of the decade. He followed up the smash hit song with more such as “You Are” and “My Love.” The next year he released the album Can’t Slow Down which ushered out even more chart topping hits – “Hello,” “All Night Long” and more. Even before Lionel Richie became a household name in the 80s, songs he wrote for other artists had already become radio staples. He penned Kenny Rodgers’ famous “Lady” and sang “Endless Love” as a duet with Diana Ross. Richie released his most recent album Just Go in 2009, which features current R&B artist Akon on two of the tracks. Akon and singer/producer Ne-Yo are also reported to have shared in writing the album’s songs with Richie.
