MTV Personality and Toronto Insider, Tika Simone, introduces a new addition to her already dynamic resume with the opening of her weekly Friday night, “Intimate and Interactive Open Mic.” The only AUDITION-ONLY Open Mic night due to the fact that a headliner is booked each and every week. Each Open Mic artist is representing the headliner so in order for them to perform, they MUST audition. Each headliner is a well known artist within the Canadian Music Industry.

As longtime friends who first met through their sisters, the dynamic duo began their music venture aiming to burst into the hip hop scene. Starting out with faulty computers in a small apartment bedroom, the two spent countless hours producing music, with ambitions of making it big. As time went on, their style began to evolve. Densil picked up a guitar, and forced Cola to take his drumming more seriously with the desire to form a rock band to revolutionize the industry. The two paired off and scouted new members to fulfill the vision. After going through several candidates, they came to the realization that no one they found shared their musical perspective. It was at this point they came to the conclusion that it would be appropriate to stay as a duo.

In mid-2008, the oOohh Baby Gimme Mores began performing around Toronto at various venues; including Sound Academy, El Mocambo, The Rivoli & The Edge. After which, they continued working on their very first EP, with fast paced drumming, grungy guitar, and high powered vocals. Their EP is set to release sometime in 2010.

Lincoln and the Marshin Academy have taken the Toronto underground music scene by storm and plan to bring their unique sound to a national and international audience. What makes these rockers tick?
A brief bio of the five young men who make up this pioneering new group:

Lincoln Blache

Born in Toronto but raised in Mississauga, Lincoln has always been the leading man. Although his love of music started with hip-hop, skipping class to record raps with his boys, Lincoln has always had a diverse taste in music. As his career progressed, that fascination led him to experiment with different genres.
“I wanted to go beyond hip-hop because it felt so stagnant at the time.”
With a growing appreciation for pop music, Lincoln set about crafting an image for his new project.“I starting talking to my friend Marty about putting something together. We had always been talking about starting something up, but we were in different bands at the time.With Jordan, Jemuel and Mike added to the mix, Lincoln feels that he has finally found a recipe for success and has some words of wisdom for aspiring artists.
“Drop out of school, join a band, get rich, die happy.

Jordan Duarte

Living in Oakville but representing the whole GTA, Jordan has always had big dreams.
“Ever since I was 6, talking to my boy Andrew about making movies and recording music, I knew what I was meant to do in life.” Through memberships in several different bands over the years, Jordan became an expert on what formulas not to use. “A lot of it was trial and error and me just trying to find the right sound.”
Influenced by pop, rock, hip-hop and other genres, Jordan always thought of himself as a pioneer in music. After hooking up with Lincoln and the band through his buddy Mike, Jordan knew he had finally found his musical home.
“The whole chemistry was great and I knew these were the guys I would make it big with. After a few jams, we just hit it off with the right chemistry and there was no looking back.”

Mike Pidgeon

Hailing from the Clarkson area of Mississauga, Mike knew early on what kind of lifestyle lay ahead for him.
“Music has always been a part of my life growing up, so I just thought I’d try to keep growing with it”
Mike went to high school with Marty and knew Jordan through their work together at Sobey’s. Starting a band with people he knew and trusted was a no-brainer for the young musician. Mike’s taste in music is as diverse as his band’s style.
“I listen to everything – country to metal top pop. If it’s done well, it’s good by me”

Marty Demesa

Picking up his first guitar at the age of 13, Marty never looked back.
“I started to learn some Metallica, Sum 41, etc and I started a cover band with some friends. I knew music was for me.”
Hooking up with Lincoln and Mike in high school and introduced to Jemuel his first year at York University, the Mississauga native had found his new family. “Upon meeting Lincoln and starting the band, Jemuel was the first name to come to mind for keys. We auditioned him and he’s been here ever since.”

Jemuel Roberts

With obvious musical talent as early as 4 years old, Jemuel was born to play. Growing up in the west end of Ottawa, it wasn’t long until Jemuel ended up in Toronto, pursuing his dream. His journey through different musical styles has paralleled his own life’s trek.
“When I was younger, I only listened to Hip-Hop, Rap R&B and Dancehall. However, as I got older I branched out and discovered artists like Jack Johnson and Billy Talent.”
Jemuel met Marty at York University. Although they didn’t hang out much during their time at the school, Marty called Jemuel with an offer the following year.
“I got a call from him asking if I wanted to play piano for a band he was in with Lincoln. He gave me Lincoln’s number and we started jamming a week or two after.
