Charlotte Women to be Honored With “Life Well Lived’ Awards Women’s Living Well Series Announces 2009 Winners

Charlotte, NC – Five outstanding Charlotte women have been selected as winners of the 2009 ‘Life Well Lived’ awards by the Women’s Living Well Series. “The Life Well Lived Award recipients are women who exemplify a life of exploration, transformation and action that has led them to realize their life's passion,” says Wialillian Howard, founder of the awards and the ‘Women’s Living Well Series. “They are inspirational, empowered, enlightened, and innovative.   They have taken extraordinary steps to enhance and transform themselves and enhance their lives to the fullest,” she adds. 

The winners will be honored at a very special awards dinner on April 25 2009 at 7:00pm at the Charlotte Marriott SouthPark. Keynote speaker will be Dr. Octavia Cannon who opened the first all women physicians Ob-Gyn practice in Charlotte. The awards dinner is open to the public. The winners of the 2009 Life Well Lived Awards:

Maggi Braun

Maggi Braun’s life has been a blending of entrepreneurship, service to others and a love of family. A mother of three sons, she was able to start her own business at a time when others were saying, “You can’t do that”. But she did. Braun launched Business Success Strategies. She served as a class instructor and director of nationally recognized small business programs at community colleges throughout the region, inspiring others to follow their passions. In retirement Braun remains involved, but she follows this rule to stay balanced: “No Mondays, no Fridays, nothing before nine, nothing after four”. For the most part, she says she has kept to that.
Janine Davis, an 18-year veteran of the professional broadcasting industry and current producer and co-host for WPEG-FM, found time in her busy life to help others. Davis started Girl Talk Foundation, Inc. in 2003 taking it from all-girl rap sessions to an organization specifically targeted to build self-esteem and teach leadership skills in young girls. Since starting Girl Talk, the program has served nearly 3,500 girls. The organization’s work now includes a full-year curriculum for the girls. Davis stays balanced by being involved in numerous social and business organizations. Davis balances healthy living through her commitment to the girls and her personal commitment to daily medication and frequent sessions with her personal trainer. Friends say her sense of humor completes her sense of being.

Janine Davis

Janine Davis, an 18-year veteran of the professional broadcasting industry and current producer and co-host for WPEG-FM, found time in her busy life to help others. Belva Greenage

Belva Greenage fulfilled her lifelong dream to influence and inspire women of all races, religions and backgrounds by taking the leap from corporate America to becoming an entrepreneur. After 22 years in banking, which provided her experience in management, mentoring and counseling, Greenage purchased Today’s Charlotte Woman magazine. A mother, a wife, a friend, she has inspired countless women with this leap, through the magazine and, also, as she battles breast cancer. Greenage says she remains balanced and hopeful through her faith in God, working with her doctors and focusing on her family and her life’s work.
 
Fabi Preslar

Fabi Preslar knew at a young age she wanted to communicate through art. Motivated by her dream of a career in graphic arts she moved to Charlotte after high school. With no friends, no money, no car, she worked three jobs to put herself through college. She is now the owner of SPARK Publications taking it from a home-based business where she was there for her husband and young daughter to a bricks and mortar design firm which has evolved into a thriving marketing design firm and publications powerhouse. Preslar lives a balanced life providing her services to non-profits, serving on numerous boards, mentoring others and spending time with family and friends.

Lizzie Miles Williams

Lizzie Miles Williams has given countless hours to the community as teacher, school counselor and administrator for over thirty years. After retiring in 2002, she continues to give. In addition to serving as an administrator at Phillip O. Berry Academy, Williams is the owner of two pizza franchises, a beauty salon and a service center. She is also a member of numerous clubs and organizations having held many offices. She has been an inspiration to many and, along with her late husband, helped vitalize Charlotte’s west side. Williams’ friends say she is an exemplary example of how to balance career, family and personal interests.

The Women’s Living Well Series- I Can Do Anything’ event set for April 24- 26, 2009 in Charlotte. “Studies show that women spend a lifetime taking care of everyone else, while often ignoring their own well-being,” says Wialillian Howard, founder of the program. “We have a program set which will help women learn why they have conflicts in putting a priority on their health, their needs and their happiness and the steps to take to develop a working plan for moving in a new and more powerful direction.”

Accomplished and insightful women leaders will conduct workshops and discussions with real ‘take aways’ on several topics including career transitions, finances, work/life balance, health and happiness.

Proceeds will be donated to Girl Talk Foundation, Inc., a non-profit that supports girls in their personal and academic development.
