Part one of this two-part event was a success! Six finalists were chosen by a jury from 22 national entries. Now it's time for part two: the Build Event!

Each of the chosen finalists will be teamed up with volunteer craftsmen to help realize their design. The finalists from the Design Competition will be required to erect their Sukkah on Sept. 23, 2012. The Build Event will take place at the Liberty Plaza Park in Ann Arbor, Michigan for one day and then will be moved to the Jewish Community Center of Greater Ann Arbor where they will be on display for the week of Sukkot from September 29-October 9, 2012.

We need your support... be a part of this epic event and volunteer now! http://sukkaharbor.com

Sukkahs are temporary shelters, used by the ancient Israelites while wandering in the desert. Sukkah Arbor is a ‘Design-Build’ competition that will re-envision the Sukkah, based upon the traditional construction laws detailed in the Bible, using 21st century techniques and materials.

Sukkot – “The Feast of Ingathering” – is an especially joyful Jewish holiday. Religiously, the sukkah is meant to commemorate the fragile huts lived in by the Israelites after being freed from Egypt and a symbol of G-d’s protection wherever you may dwell. The sukkah also stands as a symbol for the impermanence and transience of life and shelter.
