The Liberty Lecture series is co-presented by the Valentine Richmond History Center and the St. John’s Church Foundation. Held twice annually, in March and October, each installment includes a 60-minute author lecture, followed by a box lunch and book signing. Topics include all aspects of regional history, including political, social and fiscal history.

George C. Herring, emeritus professor at the University of Kentucky and author of From Colony to Superpower: U.S. Foreign Relations since 1776, discusses U.S. foreign policy from 1776 to the present and its impact on American citizens then and now. Dr. Herring held the Douglas Southall Freeman Chair in History at the University of Richmond in 2001 and earned his Ph.D. at the University of Virginia. He is the author of numerous books, articles, and essays, including The Secret Diplomacy of the Vietnam War: The Negotiating Volumes of the Pentagon Papers (1983). Dr. Herring will answer questions and sign copies of his book directly following his lecture.
