Lewisham Way
London, England SE14 6NW

As part of the Lewisham ’77 collaboration, Goldsmiths, University of London is hosting a debate that will include contributions from distinguished sociologists, Professor Paul Gilroy and Dr William ‘Lez’ Henry, both experts in race, racism and resistance. The event, on Saturday 10 November, is being held to commemorate the 30 year anniversary of the ‘Battle of Lewisham,’ a seminal day in the mobilisation against racism in London and across the nation.

Veterans from the famous stand against National Front activists that took place on the doorstep of Goldsmiths, in New Cross, will come together to debate and discuss the events of 13 August 1977 and assess their relevance for today. A number of films featuring veteran’s stories from the day will also be screened alongside photographic and film archives.

Admission is free, and the event is open to the public. The organisers are particularly keen for people who were present at the 1977 event to come and share their memories from the day. For more information please contact Paul Hendrich, tel 07876 144 535, e-mail [email protected]
