From one of Australia’s most well known and prolific playwrights, David Williamson and directed by Denis Moore, comes Let the Sunshine, playing at Riverside Theatres from Wednesday, 2 May to Saturday, 5 May.

In a hilarious mix of Romeo and Juliet and Meet the Parents, Let the Sunshine tells the story of two contrasting couples who move to Noosa to escape the daily grind of city life, and drama unfolds as snobbery, indignation and pride grows.
Dennis Coard plays Toby, a maker of hard hitting documentaries, flees Sydney in shame when the press finds out he had inadvertently used a bogus witness in his latest film. He convinces his reluctant wife Ros, played by Toni Scanlan, to travel north with him to a haven in Queensland, fondly remembered from visits in his youth. Problem is it has now moved from a simple fishing village to a chic, upmarket, manicured playground of the wealthy and privileged.

Ros meets an old school friend, Natasha, played by Alexandra Fowler, who is married to Ron. played by Peter Phelps, a hugely wealthy property developer. The connection between the two couples seems destined to be brief and acrimonious except for one thing, the daughter of Natasha, Hannah Norris and drop out musician Rick, Ryan Hayward. And then, in typical Williamson fashion, it's on for young and old.

Since his early television role on Sons & Daughters, Peter Phelps has been one of Australia’s best-known actors. He has appeared in dozens of celebrated film, television and theatre productions, and was most recently in the lead cast of the Network Nine TV series Rescue Special Ops. Phelps’ credits include Network Nine TV series Stingers; Blue Murder series for ABC TV; telemovie The Les Darcy Story; All Saints; and recently starred in Underbelly A Tale of Two Cities to name a few. He also won the AFI Award for best actor in a leading Role in a TV Drama for GP (ABC TV), and the 2002 Silver Logie for Stingers.

Also appearing are Ally Fowler, whose television credits include Sons & Daughters, All Saints and Neighbours; Water Rats’ Toni Scanlan; Dennis Coard from Seven Network’s Home and Away, Ryan Hayward who appeared in Casualty; and Hannah Norris who starred in My Name is Rachel Corrie.

Let the Sunshine notches up its first chuckle in less than 30 seconds without a word being spoken. This play's scale, its themes and its humour are a perfect fit.
