Denmark’s capital has one of the lowest car uses of any European city. It is also a vibrant city with lively street life – despite enjoying a climate similar to our own.

Could it contain lessons for planning our own towns and cities? Architect George Ferguson, past president of the RIBA, is a frequent visitor to Copenhagen, which he sees as ‘a world leader in civilising the public realm’.

The talk will be illustrated with excerpts from his BBC film Building Britain in which he shows how we might learn from Copenhagen’s people-oriented approach.
