UK painter Scott Carruthers exhibits Canadian debut in Toronto, as the Leonardo Galleries Annual Winter Group Show 2009/2010 focus turns to painters, sculptors and print-media artists; reception December 3, 2009.

Exhibiting for the first time in Canada, UK painter Scott Carruthers showcases his character-centric work along with twelve accomplished artists specializing in painting, print-media or sculpting. The artist reception is on Thursday, December 3 at 6:30 p.m., and is the opening to the second half of Leonardo Galleries’ (Yorkville) Annual Winter Group Show 2009/2010, which runs to January 16, 2010.

Scott Carruthers explains his collection, “My paintings are largely inspired by a mix of nostalgia from my own childhood and from observing my two young kids. My paintings can also been influenced by a particular song, something I have seen in the news or a conversation; all relating to childhood and particularly the comparisons with differing generations.”

Scott Carruthers, who describes his family as large and tightly knit, was born in New Zealand in 1975. Soon after, his family moved back to their origins in London, England and they eventually settled in Norwich, where Carruthers lived for nearly 30 years. In 2005, he made the decision to move to Perth, Scotland, which he says, “Is the best decision I ever made,” and where he is now based full time. His work is featured in many galleries and shows UK wide such as the Edinburgh Art Fair, London Art Fair and Artifex Contemporary Art Gallery in Sutton Coldfield.

The annual winter group exhibition also highlights a variety of vastly exhibited, award-winning artists including painters Anne Barkley, Bisa Bennett, Jane Burns, Serafino Catallo, Susan Donati, Marc Gagnon, Ilya Gefter, Bonnie King, Lena Shugar and Shirley Williams, print-media artist Janet Lowry and sculptor Brett Davis.
