One of the most accomplished authors of our time, as well as a preacher, scholar, and ordained United Methodist clergyperson currently serving as the E. Stanley Jones Professor of Evangelism at Drew Theological School, in Madison, New Jersey, and a Visiting Distinguished Professor at George Fox University in Portland, Oregon. In 2007, he was voted One of the 50 Most Influential Christian Leaders in America (#8). In 2006, he received the same honor (#32).
His newest book, The Church of the Perfect Storm, is a Sweetly-edited anthology of chapters on the rough waters of our times, the ways in which the church should and can ride into the storm, how to not only ride out the waves, but do effective ministry in these raging waters. These are unique times wherein the traditional church as we know it is giving way to a more spiritual community based design.
