The greatest living exponents of reggae music THE WAILERS, will be continuing their US tour and are heading to the Wall Street Plaza in Orlando, Sunday, April 25. The tour comes hot on the heels of last year’s smash-hit “Exodus Tour” that saw the band playing the classic 1977 album in its entirety to sold-out venues in 20 countries across the world.
I WENT HUNGRY Campaign is a global music industry initiative started by the legendary reggae band to help eradicate hunger. The Wailers will be using the tour to bring more attention to their campaign www.iwenthungry.org , which donates unused funds from the band’s daily hospitality riders, directly to the United Nations’ World Food Program. The band decided to put their empathy into action upon learning that every 6 seconds a child dies of hunger, so they are enlisting their fellow musicians to go hungry by donating a portion of their tour catering to the I WENT HUNGRY campaign. To date over 650,000 people have been fed to date.

Original member Aston “Familyman” Barrett, a revered innovator joined The Wailers in 1969, quickly becoming singer-songwriter Bob Marley’s right-hand man and musical director. On record and on stage, his inimitable style became an essential part of the Wailers’ sound. Following Marley’s death in 1981, “Fams” took the reins as the band’s leader, spearheading performances to adoring crowds the world over, as well as the band’s involvement with the fight against global hunger. “For decades The Wailers have been about spreading a positive message to our audience,” says Fams. “With the campaign, we want to spread that message beyond the audience – even if the people can’t feel it musically, they’ll feel it spiritually.” Check out this video:

Formed in Jamaica in the late 1960s, The Wailers have gone on to become the most successful reggae band of all time, selling over 250 million albums, and playing live to an estimated 24 million people worldwide. The Wailers’ leader and musical director Familyman, helped forge the template for reggae with his booming, thunderous bass patterns and ever-so-tight turns. But more than just a bass player, Family Man also played a large part in arranging Marley’s songs and co-produced a number of the late icon’s albums.
