Legacy Land Conservancy “Back to the Country” Gala June 9, 2011

Legacy Land Conservancy unveiled its 40th anniversary celebration plans today, with local culinary stars, top brewers, and a prize-winning winery on center stage for the festivities taking place June 9 at Misty Farms. The gala will celebrate Legacy’s 40 years of success in
protecting 4656 acres of working farms and natural areas.

Taking top billing is Chef Alex Young, a managing partner of Zingerman’s Roadhouse who has just received his fifth nomination as the Midwest’s best chef by the James Beard Foundation. Chef Alex will prepare the main course for Legacy guests.

Chef Brandon Johns, of the farm-to-fork Grange Kitchen and Bar on Liberty in Ann Arbor, will create appetizers for the celebration. Johns calls the Legacy-Grange pairing “a perfect fit.” Land preservation “goes hand-in-hand with what we do here,” he says.

Rounding out the evening will be Heather Price from Sandhill Crane Winery in Jackson County. Price, who is a wine-maker and chef, is preparing her special-recipe for dessert, local fruit cobbler. Sandhill Crane wine will be served at the event, including a limited edition Legacy Land Conservancy blend of chardonnay and vignole grapes. Sandhill Crane expects to open a new restaurant at the winery this spring. Additionally, every guest will receive a very special European-style chocolate treat from Scott Huckestein of Schakolad

In addition to Sandhill Crane wine, Legacy will serve Jolly Pumpkin ale and Arbor Brewing Company's special keg beer, as well as beer from Ann Arbor’s newest brewery, Wolverine State Brewing Company.

The event will be held amid the rolling fields, heritage herb gardens, and
antique barns of Misty Farms, 8040 Scio Church Rd., Scio Township, on June 9, 2011, from 6-9 p.m.
