What: Left Coast Writers, created to support new and established writers in an atmosphere of creativity and community, will celebrate the release of award winning books of poetry by two of its members: When the House is Quiet by Kirsten Jones Neff and All That Gorgeous, Pitiless Song by Rebecca Foust. Both authors will read from and sign their books, and champagne and cookies will be served.

Kirsten Jones Neff’s first chapbook, When The House is Quiet, was released in March 2010. It won the 2009 Starting Gate Prize and a 2010 Pushcart nomination from Finishing Line Press. Kirsten Jones Neff is a writer, gardening teacher, and documentary filmmaker whose work has appeared in several PBS films, periodicals and anthologies, including When The Muse Calls: Poems for The Creative Life, The Believer, Englishcafe.com, Writer’s Advice, The Poetry Farmer’s Almanac, Ode, 34th Parallel and The Marin Poetry Center Anthology. Rebecca Foust’s third book, All That Gorgeous, Pitiless Song won the Many Mountains Moving Book Award and was released at AWP in April 2010. Forthcoming in 2010 is God, Seed (Tebot Bach Press) a collection of environmental poetry with art by local artist Lorna Stevens. Foust’s chapbooks, Mom’s Canoe and Dark Card won the Robert Phillips Poetry Prizes in 2007 and 2008, and her recent poetry is published in Atlanta Review, Margie, North American Review, The Hudson Review, and elsewhere.
