Professors Robert McLaughlin and Sally E. Parry, authors of “We’ll Always Have the Movies: American Cinema during World War II,” will discuss the culmination of their work after viewing more than 600 films made between 1937 and 1946. This talk explores how movies made in Hollywood during World War II were not simply flag-waving propaganda, but were designed to evoke emotional reactions and provide a way for Americans to understand their world at war. Film clips are shown throughout the lecture and include scenes from some of the great movies of the time, as well as some not-so-great “B” movies of the era.
