Riv-Ellen Prell, professor and chair of American studies at the University of Minnesota?s Center for Judaic Studies, will give Carleton College?s annual Forkosh Family Lecture in Judaic Studies, titled, ?Has Feminism Really Changed American Religion? A Jewish Case Study,? on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m. in Carleton?s Severance Great Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Prell is among the country?s most distinguished scholars of Jews and Judaism in post-war America. Her work spans social anthropology, American popular culture, religious studies and gender studies. A widely respected teacher and lecturer, Prell invites her audiences to appreciate the complexity of evolving gender roles and religious identities.

The author of dozens of scholarly and popular articles, Prell is the author of ?Prayer and Community: The Havurah in American Judaism,? which won the National Jewish Book Award, and ?Fighting to Become Americans: Jews, Gender, and the Anxiety of Assimilation.?

The lecture is part of the Forkosh Family Lectureship in Judaic Studies at Carleton College. Established in 1983, the Forkosh Family Lectureship seeks to bring leading scholars of Jewish studies to the Carleton campus each year.
