The “Masters of Venice” exhibition now at the de Young Museum gives us a rare chance to see a group of superb paintings which are normally in the collection of the Kunsthistoriches Museum in Vienna.

Art historian Deborah Loft will introduce us to the exhibition, and will share observations to enhance our visit. What is distinctive about Venetian Renaissance painting? What are the stories being told? What was the role of Venetian painting in the broader European context? Join us to enjoy this exceptional chapter in the history of Italian art.

Deborah Loft is Professor of Art History at College of Marin, where she received the Distinguished Teaching Award. She has lectured widely in the Bay Area, including a recent Humanities West program on Toledo, Spain, and the “Getting to Know Modern Art” series at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
