Lauren Kalman: Corpus, Figure, Skate March 28, 2008

'Corpus, Figure, Skate' is an installation of videos and sculptural objects that investigates the subconscious desire to reunite physicality with the body despite attempts to repress it. The videos in the installation simultaneously illustrate and deny corporeality. A single female figure is present throughout the videos. Her actions display both physical and emotional exertion, but their placement in the television screen denies them a visceral, tangible, presence and dilutes any emotional potency.
