On Friday, October 14, one of New York's favorite singer-songwriters, Laura Thomas, will entertain her fans with her voice and her pen. In addition to performing, Thomas will be signing her new novel, "Shadow Swans," at Rockwood Music Hall. Traditionally known for her powerful songwriting, Thomas reveals another side in "Shadow Swans." With vivid and alluring prose, Thomas's story of beauty and adventure in the New York underground quickly sinks its claws into every reader.

In her review, literary agent Dana Beck says that "Shadow Swans" is a "must-read for fans of The Hunger Games," and she notes, "This book pulls you into a dark and magical world you never want to leave." Journalist Lindsay Sterling compliments Thomas's prose, which she says is "shimmering with tactile pleasure in a paradoxically repulsive underground world."

At Rockwood Music Hall on October 14, Thomas will be selling and signing copies of her addictive new novel.

And her music is also certain to entertain. The Washington Post has said that "Her voice is capable of tracing melodies as sinuous as the Rock Creek Parkway, and she has a soft spot for writing tender, compassionate or introspective ballads that help set her apart from the rant'n'roll crowd." With Grace Potter's sheer, clear power, the sultriness of Rachael Yamagata, and Ani Difranco's tell-it-like-it-is defiance, Laura has long been captivating audiences throughout NYC at venues like Rockwood, Crash Mansion, Googie's above the Living Room, the Bitter End, and Joe's Pub. Now she'll bring her crafty lyrics and powerhouse voice to Rockwood, where she'll be accompanied by Russell Kaplan on piano.
