Latin Jazz Celebration October 4, 2008

Celebrate the tropical rhythms, colors, and sounds of Latin Jazz for Hispanic Heritage Month!

Enjoy an interactive musical presentation by a student quartet from The Music Teaching Project. Led by renowned bassist Michael Bowie, the group includes Washington, DC, public school students ages 13-17 playing saxophone, drums, and clarinet.

Continue the afternoon with conga drum demonstrations and jazz oral histories presented by Smithsonian Jazz Appreciation Month Initiatives.

Design your own stamp with artist Michael Bartalos, who designed the recently released Latin Jazz commemorative stamp! And get inspired with Hispanic Heritage stories!
