A repertoire of two Latin American plays.
Divorcees, Evangelist and Vegetarians is a tragic-comedy that tells the story of three women on the edge of a nervous breakdown. Gloria, who was just spurned by her married lover, meets Beatriz, who is about to jump onto the subway tracks because she married too young and was never able to fulfill her dreams. Along comes Meche, an evangelist living with tremendous existential issues and contradictions. Destiny brings these three women together to help each other overcome their bleak existence.
The Deceased Woman is a psychological dark comedy consisting of three intersecting stories. Zulmira, a working-class, middle aged woman, is dying of emphysema and wants to arrange for herself the grandest funeral her town has ever seen. Her clueless husband Tuninho, meanwhile, fantasizes about winning piles of money by betting on his favorite dark-horse “futebal” team. Mixed with this is the boys-clubby atmosphere of the town funeral home and oversexed swindlers who spend their days convincing patrons to spend vast sums on the dearly departed.
