Inspired by a few real-life instances, Lakeerein is the dramatization of a collage of stories and poems by renowned litterateur, Gulzar. It offers a glimpse into the lives of people divided by a common history and encompasses the journey of the last sixty years, as it traces stories of hope, despair, passion and redemption. The show is a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit and shared values nurtured over centuries of coexistence. Gulzar draws from his vast personal experience on the theme of relations across borders, and its consequences on the lives of its people. Narrated with trademark humour and poignancy, interspersed with profoundly poetic moments, the play is a fascinating exploration of perhaps the biggest tragedy that has befallen the Indian sub-continent and its enduring aftermath. Gulzar is a noted Indian poet, lyricist, director and playwright, who writes primarily in Hindi and Urdu. His many accolades include the Padma Bhushan and the Sahitya Akademi Award.
