The members of local Afro-Caribbean band LaKay believe in uniting diverse souls and strive to carry that ethic to their audiences and to the larger world. The eight piece group brings together a wide variety of styles whose origins range from Africa to the Caribbean – calypso, reggae, soca, kompa, soukous, highlife, dancehall, and more. The songs are perfect melody for dancing, and stay in your head for weeks. They contain no profanity, nothing degrading, only positivity and fun. There two most popular songs, "Protect the Children", and "Jah the Lion" both tributes to love and hope.
LaKay’s lively stage presence is spearheaded by lead singers Mystic Man, the band’s Haitian-born director, Nigerian native Kemi Spor, and Berkeleys own LAdy Eleksa.
