La Vida es Sueño (Life is a Dream)
A masterpiece of Spain's Golden Age

by Pedro Calderon de la Barca
traslation by Michael Kidd
directed by Denise Blasor

La Vida es Sueño (Life is a Dream) is a play about the prince, Segismund. The horoscope of the newborn convinces his father, King Basilio, that his son is destined to bring dishonor and cause his downfall. Basilio confines his son to a tower, where Segismund lives chained like a beast. One day the King relents and Segismund awakes from nightmare to find himself crown prince. Segismund realizes that life is a dream and dreams after all, are only dreams.
