On September 11, our nation will remember the courageous men and women who risked their own lives to save the lives of others. Today, firefighters, police, paramedics and volunteers from across the country work to protect our country. For the seventh year, the students of La Paloma Academy will honor Tucson’s own heroes on this day. The school invites the community to participate in what promises to be a touching evening, Heroes’ Night.

La Paloma Academy created Heroes’ Night to further the school’s goals of community involvement and support. For seven years, this special La Paloma Academy celebration has honored our heroes. Throughout the week, students learn about our country’s service professions and the little things they can do to support them, such as saying “thank you,” picking up trash and obeying laws.

Heroes’ Night commences with the presentation of colors by Davis Monthan honor guards. A special tribute conducted by Tucson City Council Member Shirley Scott, a video presentation, dedication of gifts to local heroes and reading of student essays all follow. Councilperson Scott will pay homage to military and service personal that serve and have served Tucson. She will also recognize Tucson natives now serving overseas.
