BFA Presents "The Birdcage" ("La Jaula de las Locas")
April 17-May 18
What happens when the families of an ultra Far Right politician and the owner of a transvestite nightclub meet for the first time? This result is a big salad bowl of comedic ingredients that serve as the basis for the hilarious comedy romp, The Birdcage is being presented by the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts™ Teatro Carmen Zapata from April 18 through May 18.

The play is based on an original screenplay by Elaine May that starred Robin Williams, Nathan Lane and Gene Hackman.

The play features an extraordinary line up of local actors, great musical numbers and spectacular costumes under the talented direction of Margarita Galban. The musical numbers are choreographed by Mari Sandoval. The costumes are the creation of designer Carlos Brown. Set and production designs are by Estela Scarlata with lighting design by Edward Motts. The cast includes Manolo Travieso, Alejandro Jimenez, Rony Vega, Pablo Figueroa, Jorge Alonso Luna, Fernando M. Ventura, Mari­a Felipe, Ray Torres, Kiko Mahecha, Eddie Zamora, Jonathan Kelley, Gloria Laino, Lina Montalvo, Luba Tatiana Petrovich, Lupita Beltran, Chavela Munoz and Hecmar Lugo.

Performances are scheduled Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. with matinees Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.

Tickets are priced as $30 general admission with discounts for groups, seniors and students. The last performance will be dedicated to the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA).

The Bilingual Foundation of the Arts is celebrating its 35th year of presenting classic and contemporary works in English and Spanish. The theatre is located at 421 North Avenue 19 in the Lincoln Heights community of Los Angeles.
