1937, 100 min. b/w. DIR Detlef Sierck CAST Zarah Leander, Ferdinand Marian, Karl Martell, Julia Serda
In German with English subtitles, DVD
A Swedish woman marries the owner of a large estate in Puerto Rico in order to break out of the middle-class confinement of her native country. Far away from home, in a country where men have the power and women the emotions, she realizes that she has replaced one confinement with another.
In this film Zarah Leander plays one of her greatest and most passionate roles. Her singing expresses feelings that her male-dominated environment does not permit. After Marlene Dietrich left Berlin, the UFA production company used every means available to promote its new star, Zarah Leander.
