Kurt Baumann - The Burned

@ The Bluebird - June 14

@ Hodi's Half Note in Fort Collins - June 15

Kurt Baumann, former lead singer and songwriter of the band Kan'Nal, launches his solo career as The Burned. Once again a proud Colorado resident, Kurt returns to Denver to play the Bluebird Theatre on Thursday, June 14 and then travels north to Fort Collins to play Hodi's Half Note on Friday, June 15.

Think Roger Waters/Pink Floyd. “People have described my music as kind of spooky and dark.” Baumann, in an interview with Skope Magazine, said much of its inspiration coming from the parched terrain of his home state that has produced a musical melting pot of country, blues, soul, rock, R&B and psychedelic sounds. "I needed to fulfill this vision by going back to my Texas roots.”

In addition to The Burned, Kurt has also toured and recorded with Grammy-winning DJ Adam Freeland’s electro-rock trio Freeland, and worked on Katie Gray’s new album "Love Like Fire," lending vocals and guitar plus joining her in a duet project called The SeaStars.

Many of his songs have already been featured on TV shows such as STARZ “Crash,” ABC's “Make It or Break It,” CW's “Gossip Girl” and NBC’s “Chase”. “We’ve discovered a favorite new artist,” says ABC Family.

Katie Gray lends her voice and musical talents to The Burned. She has spent her performing career as a solo act with her guitar, and has focused her energy on the richness of her voice and the art of songwriting. Her song “Set Free” was featured on the FOX television show “Bones" and on the iTunes compilation of Spotlight Independent artists.

Jinji Thompson was born to play music. Growing up around countless talented, professional musicians as the son of legendary drummer Larry Thompson (Earth, Wind and Fire, Otis Taylor), it was only natural for him to fall into a life as a musician. After learning piano, saxophone, and guitar Jinji picked up his first bass and hit the ground running. After writing and recording several albums, playing all over the country, and graduating from the music program at the University of Colorado at Denver, family friend Dik Darnell introduced him to Kurt Baumann. Jinji fell in love with the emotion and honesty of Kurt’s music and jumped on the chance to play in The Burned.

Chase Dabney’s unique approach to acoustic guitar, described by the Louisville Music News as an “acoustic guitar beatdown,” features pounding rhythms, vast dynamics, mind-blowing speed, and pinpoint accurate harmonics. Chase has performed as a solo artist earning praise and awards throughout the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. He has also performed with bands such as Burn to Shine and Days of the New.

Drummer/percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, international recording artist Jonny Jyemo comes full circle and back to his rocker roots with The Burned. Jonny has traveled to many distant places studying music and absorbing the cultures that make it what it is.
