Riverside Theatres proudly presents the Australian jazz vocalist and composer KRISTIN BERARDI with MIKE NOCK at Riverside Theatres on Saturday 26 July at 7.30pm for one night only. The combination between Kristin Berardi and pianist Mike Nock promises to be a dynamic performance.
Kristin Berardi has been acclaimed world wide. She won the highly prized 2006 Shure Montreaux Jazz Voice Competition at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, and this Riverside concert is an exclusive Sydney appearance. Kristin was invited to record an album with Jim-featuring her voice and compositions Pugh in New York City in 2004 alongside Kenny Warner, Thomas Morgan, Bill Campbell and Nick Mancini. As well as her success at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland she came third in Australia’s National Jazz Awards at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival in 2005.
World-class pianist Mike Nock's reputation rests on his 25 years working in the USA with musicians such as Coleman Hawkins, Yusef Lateef, Dionne Warwick and Michael Brecker. Mike gained some recognition during his period as a member of Yusef Lateef's band (1963-65). From 1968 to 1970 Mike was involved with fusion, leading the Fourth Way, a pioneer in the idiom. He recorded as early as 1960 and has made records for Capitol (with the Fourth Way), MPS, Improvising Artists (in a band called Almanac), Laurie, Enja, Timeless, Tomato and ECM.
Kristin and Mike will be backed by a band made up of some of Australia's leading Jazz artists, each with national and international reputations in their own right. The six-part band includes guitarist James Muller, bassist Mike Majkowski, drummer Tim Firth and tenor saxophonist David Theak. This is an unforgettable combination of award winning musicians, playing jazz at it’s very best.
