In partnership with the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street program, the Georgia Humanities Council and the Butts County Historical Society are proud to present Key Ingredients: America by Food, a traveling exhibit that provides a mouth-watering look at the historical, regional, and social traditions that merge in everyday meals through the American kitchen’s ever-changing recipes, menus, ceremonies, and etiquette.

Key Ingredients will stop at the Indian Spring Hotel-Museum between November 14, 2009 and December 27, 2009, allowing residents and visitors alike to explore photographs and illustrations related to food. The exhibit appeals to all ages, and includes six freestanding display structures with interactive components. The local theme, Stirring up the Past, tells the history of food from the surrounding area. Displays from our local community will illustrate the various aspects of our history, culture, and traditions as related to food. To commemorate the occasion, a cookbook entitled Stirring up the Past, can be purchased for $15.00. It includes a collection of historical recipes from many of our local cooks and some from the famous Elder Hotel that burned in 1984.

The Indian Springs Hotel-Museum will have extended hours during the exhibit and will open Wednesday – Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM; 10 AM – 7 PM each Friday PM. The Exhibit will close on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Groups (schools, civic clubs, church organizations, etc.) of ten or more visitors should make reservations at least two days in advance of their visit.
