KEITH JAMES & RICK FOOT — POET IN NEW YORK

Keith James and Rick Foot celebrate New York’s abundant musical and poetic history with a concert of unique and evocative music featuring material by Leonard Cohen, Federico Garcia Lorca, Vladimir Nabokov, Laura Nyro, Bob Dylan, Suzanne Vega, and Pablo Neruda.

Poet in New York, as a contemporary project was first offered to Elvis Costello by Laura Garcia Lorca (Garcia Lorca’s niece) and when nothing surfaced by way of recordings or concerts, Keith and Rick, whose Lorca Album 2007 was met with such admiration that it generated over 100 concert appearances, were then offered the opportunity by the Lorca legal representative in London.

Based on the title of Lorca’s series of poems written about New York in 1929, which documents his impressions and experiences, this melodious concert exposes the fear, fascination and vulnerability that a fragile and creative person experiences when confronted with somewhere as unsettling as NYC. The evening also includes a bio-documentary about the life and work of Leonard Cohen.

‘Lorca had a great impact but Poet in New York feels like a more complete work - subtle, literate and with more complex instrumentation. A Triumph.’ Rock’n'Reel****
