In the wake of 2006’s Hurricane Katrina, a group of attorneys led by famed plaintiffs’ lawyer Richard “Dickie” Scruggs and Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood embarked on an ambitious investigation, litigation, and public relations campaign aimed at imposing new legal requirements on companies who insured homes in the Gulf Coast area. The outcome of this campaign, and its attendant drama, resembles a John Grisham novel, and revealed what can go right and wrong, both for plaintiffs and defendants, in high-stakes litigation. This live Web Seminar program features two attorneys who can provide an insider’s perspective on the lawsuits, court decisions, and legal and media strategies that arose from two years of post-Katrina insurance coverage litigation. The speakers will be one of the nation’s top mass torts and insurance litigators, Sheila Birnbaum, and her Skadden, Arps colleague Hayden Coleman.
