Welcome to the Katie Shearer Hike-A-Thon registration page! You have either gotten to this page from the Katie Shearer Hike-A-Thon website http://web.me.com/castronova/hikeforkatie/Home.html or found the registration site another way. This hike in Forest Park in memory of Katie is going to be amazing!!! So if you haven't already clicked on the button and started to register to hike or given a donation, let me give some basic information about the hike.
The main idea of the fundraiser is to:
1. Pre-Register as a hiker by paying $10 (and an additional processing fee Eventbrite charges of $.99 per ticket). If you would like to donate more as a hiker, you may click on the ticket link for "Donation to Katie Shearer Memorial Fund."
2. Print the "Sponsor a Hiker Donation Form"from the Katie Shearer Hike-A-Thon website under the Registration page. GO OUT AND COLLECT DONATIONS!!! This is your part to do a little fundraising. Sponsors can be anyone (friends, family, co-workers, teachers, businesses, groups, neighbors, your mailman, or people walking on the streets). Be creative, bring out the sales person in you, and have fun! Remember Katie wouldn't want you to not have fun. So, for example you ask a next door neighbor and they want to sponsor you with a donation of $20. You take down their name and some information on the form (if they are willing) and have them sign the form saying they are donating to the Katie Shearer Memorial Fund. The preferred way of funds collection from your sponsors is by writing a check to: KATIE SHEARER MEMORIAL FUND. If they don't write checks, they can also give a cash donation (only if you and they are comfortable and you are responsible to keep track of your donation collection). If still a no go and they want to donate, give them the website information to the Katie Shearer Hike-A-Thon and there will be links to the registration pages where they will be able to securely donate through PayPal.
NOTE: There will most likely be gifts and prizes for the people that collect the most donations and the highest donation amounts. As we get more sponsors to donate items, we'll update the website with information in the Blog Spot and on the Hike-A-Thon page.
3.Let's say you wake up Sunday morning on May 10th, run into a bunch of hikers that are registered in the Katie Shearer Hike-A-Thon, and you really want to help out and hike at 10am, but you're not registered. No worries my friend! We will be taking in last minute registration at the event site for $20 per person (minimum, you may donate more if willing).
4. The day of the Hike-A-Thon you must bring all of your donations that your sponsors contributed with the detailed (and legible) spreadsheet. While everyone is hiking, little Keebler Elves will be counting up donations and totals, so that when you come through the finish line and enjoy some nice refreshments, an announcement will be made at the end of the event who gets the winning prizes and the total amount raised for the Katie Shearer Memorial Fund.
NOTE: If you do not feel comfortable carrying around checks and money for a long period of time, you may make arrangements to give to the event administration (by clicking Contact Host on the right side of this page under Hosted By) prior to the hike. You will still be eligible for the gifts and prizes when you turn in your spreadsheet at the race.

As the event progresses, more sponsors are involved, more details are figured out, you can get updates by going to the Katie Shearer Hike-A-Thon Website. The exact event start location may change too, so make sure you check back a few days before the event for the most current and up to date information. By being part of this hike, you have no idea how much it means to the Shearer Family and everyone that was touched by Katie!
All proceeds going to the KATIE SHEARER MEMORIAL FUND will be donated to the Shearer Family and the National Institute of Health Cancer Research Trials.
