Kathy Mattea has gathered songs and stories of bravery and grief that define the life and times in her native state of west virginia. "Coal," nominated for a grammy in 2008, was her first step to discovering this vast and rich genre of music that producer marty stuart said was "in her blood," taking Mattea back to the lore of family stories and to her people.
