Barefoot Chamber Concerts continues its mission to help you start the weekend right. The series ("an enterprise noted for both its quality and informality" - San Francisco Classical Voice) presents really good music in the right acoustic and without the formality of most classical music events. Our concerts start at 6 on Fridays and last no more than 75 minutes. Kids are very welcome if quiet, and admission under 18 is free. Light refreshments are available before, during, and after the concert. There will be ample time to move on to other evening entertainments.

For the first concert in its fourth season Barefoot is delighted to present "Music by French Decadents"; extravagant harpsichord music from Bourbon courts including pieces by Duphly, Forqueray, Rameau, Armand-Louis Couperin, and, of course, . . . Royer! (including the famous "Vertigo", the piece that anticipates the Grand Guignol by a mere 100 years ). Bay Area star Katherine Heater has assembled a program of some of her favorite things from this perfumed, gilded age.

Eventually, the revolutionaries guillotined the nobility and ate their horses. Then, they burnt the harpsichords. What gorgeous excesses triggered their fury at these innocent musical instruments? Come and find out for yourself. This is the music that accompanied Marie Antoinette as she sat on her gilded milking stool at her little farm in the gardens of Versailles playing the dairy maid to her swooning entourage, as the peasants starved just beyond the garden wall.

The program will be approximately 75 minutes with no intermission. The usual light refreshments will be available.
