Accomplished Kathak exponent Pratap Pawar had the honour of being the first disciple of Kathak maestro, Birju Maharaj. Having established his credentials as a Kathak practitioner in India, Pratap Pawar moved to the UK in 1981. The Triveni Dance Company, which he founded in 1980, has toured extensively in the UK, Asia, Europe and the Americas, as well as in Africa and the Caribbean. As a choreographer, Pawar has won acclaim for his distinctive blend of Indian dance traditions with Andalusian flamenco, African and Caribbean dance, as well as modern dance. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2008. He now completes fifty years of commitment to Kathak as a performer and teacher at Godrej Dance Academy Theatre. Contact: 66223737 / 66588997.
