Artist Maira Kalman has written and illustrated many well-known titles for children such as Oooh-La-La (Max in Love), Max Makes a Million and Max in Hollywood, Baby and is the creator of several books for adults including an illustrated edition of Strunk and White’s classic grammar guide, The Elements of Style, as well as The Principles of Uncertainty, a picture book of essays based on a yearlong column for The New York Times, and the soon to be released And the Pursuit of Happiness.

The Museum celebrates Kalman’s literary achievements with an evening of unbridled Kalmania -- hours of continuous Kalman-inspired activities with large helpings of dramatic Kalman readings and regular interruptions for music, dance, and other distractions.

Enjoy some creative reading and riffing on Maira Kalman’s books by Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket), the San Francisco Chronicle’s Leah Garchik, and actor and playwright Dan Hoyle. Handler will read from his recent collaboration with Kalman, 13 Words (available at the Museum Store), and will be available to sign copies.
