PERFORMANCE/BOOK READING
Kalmania

Artist Maira Kalman has written and illustrated many well-known titles for children such as Oooh-La-La (Max in Love), Max Makes a Million and Max in Hollywood, Baby and is the creator of several books for adults including an illustrated edition of Strunk and White’s classic grammar guide, The Elements of Style, as well as The Principles of Uncertainty, a picture book of essays based on a yearlong column for The New York Times, and the soon to be released And the Pursuit of Happiness.

The Museum celebrates Kalman’s literary achievements with an afternoon of unbridled Kalmania -- hours of continuous Kalman-inspired activities with large helpings of dramatic Kalman readings and regular interruptions for music, dance, and other distractions.
All ages, including families with children, will enjoy readings by best-selling children’s book author Lisa Brown (Baby, Mix Me a Drink), artist Liz Mamorsky, and Museum Trustee and certified Kalmaniac Howard Wollner. The Improv Artists will also respond to works from the exhibition, Maira Kalman: Various Illuminations (of a Crazy World).

This is the first of two days of Kalmania. A second program featuring Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket), the San Francisco Chronicle’s Leah Garchik, and actor and playwright Dan Hoyle takes place Monday, October 11 from 5-8 PM.
