Nobel Peace Prize laureate Liu Xiaobo was a prominent figure in the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. Each year after the government crackdown he commemorated his fellow activists with a poem. The poems will be published in both English and Chinese for the first time in the volume 'June Fourth Elegies.' Poet, editor at New Directions and translator Jeffrey Yang will read a selection from his translation of Liu's 'June Fourth Elegies.' Yang will be joined by Larry Siems, director of the PEN American Center's Freedom to Write Program for a discussion on Liu's poetic process.
