Canadian conductor Julien Kuerti leads the Cincinnati Syphony Orchestra to present works by Copland(Fanfare for the Common Man), Glass (Concerto Fantasy for Two Timpanists and Orchestra), Rachmaninoff (The Isle of the Dead) and Stravinsky (The Firebird Suite).

Fanfare for the Common Man, which Copland wrote for the CSO, provides a forceful opening to a propulsive program whose centerpiece is the mesmerizing Double Timpani Concerto by Philip Glass, “America's most famous living composer” (The New Yorker). Scored for 14 timpani played by two CSO timpanists, this satisfyingly intense tidal wave of sound sets the stage for the unbridled excitement of Stravinsky's Firebird Suite.
