JONATHAN KANE'S FEBRUARY
I'll let the label bio speak for itself here: "Jonathan Kane is a Downtown NYC legend -- as co-founder of the no-wave behemoth Swans, and the rhythmic thunder behind the massed-guitar armies of Rhys Chatham and the rock excursions of La Monte Young -- and one of the hardest-hitting drummers on the planet. With his solo work, Kane summons Swans' concussive wallop, Chatham's dense guitar strata, and the perpetual propulsion of 70s krautrockers Neu, then steers it all head-on into... the blues." From having seen February (Kane's live band) myself, I can say that those comparisons are entirely accurate. Four guitars, one bass, and Kane on drums, playing music that draws from traditional blues and folk and runs it through a minimalist filter. To give you a sense of what this is like live, witness this live-at-WFMU performance:

HOME
Home released their latest album, "Sexteen", in May, 2006. "The band is essentially a long-running, pressure-free pop project, on the side of a bunch of guys' lives. That they've come close to perfecting their loose yet connected composition and playing styles, to the point where the guys seem to be finishing each other's sentences and improving upon each other's ideas, is somewhat astounding. There's not really a moment that will have you skipping forward, and Sexteen's hour goes by in a blink, and thereby demands your attention for the full shot. Whoever said "all you need is love" was probably right, and it's that sentiment that carries Home back into the spotlight..." - Dusted

TAIKO MASALA
Wikipedia tells us that the word "taiko"is Japanese for "great drum". (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiko) "Great", in this case, meaning "massive"; add multiple drummers playing progressively faster rhythms at high volumes, and you have a sense of what to expect. To summarize: Big drums, complex rhythms, loud.

DRAGONS OF ZYNTH
"Exploring the worlds of Punk, Afro-Rock and Drum & Bass, Brooklyn-Queens band [Dragons of Zynth] is turning out spots in NYC with their fresh dose of soul smoke, heavy rhythms, and raw punk energy." - The Deli. Dragons of Zynth have collaborated with the likes of Massive Attack and TV on the Radio; earlier in the year, they played an ERMP benefit show with Awesome Color.
