Open Books, a Chicago non-profit organization devoted to fighting illiteracy, hosts social media buzz about reading on Monday, April 13—national “Drop Everything and Read Day.” You may not be able to join them in reading all day, but everyone can help spread awareness about illiteracy by updating Facebook and Twitter statuses to share staggering statistics about illiteracy. Start a conversation about illiteracy with friends and family when you post, “50 percent of American adults are unable to read an eighth grade level book.” Become a friend to find out more: Search “OPEN BOOKS” on Facebook and Twitter to join.
