JJ Grey comes from a long tradition of Southern storytellers, and his songs oftentimes use the loss of his natural surroundings and the marginalization of the Southern culture he grew up in as a metaphor for universal truths. Florida-based MOFRO calls their sound "front-porch soul," and the label fits. Well-worn, broken-in and somewhat funky like an old wicker rocking chair, MOFRO's laidback vibe is steeped in a swampy blues that just comes naturally to band founders JJ Grey and Daryl Hance. Like tomatoes canned in the heat of summer, MOFRO's music preserves a timeless flavor that's enjoyable all year long.
