In May 1968, a US nuclear submarine, the USS Scorpion, was sunk near the Azores, resulting in the loss of everyone on board. It was one of the worst accidents in US naval history. The Navy has long attributed the disaster to an accident, but knowledgeable people have dismissed the Navy’s explanation.
