TheGeraldine Laurent trio will play alongside Guo Yazhi, for a trulyoriginal creation, a delicious mix of musical genres with the spiritedsaxophonist and the virtuosity of the chinese suona.

Geraldine Laurent, Saxophonist
Initially interested in classical music, she developed her talents as a saxophonist.
Afterplaying in various groups she obtained a degree in Musicology, sheproduced music in her name as part of a quartet and was also invited toplay in other groups.
Renowned as an outstandingJazz player, she has great spirit and originality, she has played since2005 with the Time Out trio with Yonu Zelnik and Laurent Bataille

Yoni Zelnik, Double Bass
Born in Israel in 1975, Yoni Zelnik started playing the electric bass before the double bass.
He moved to Paris to concentrate on his Jazz playing and continue his studies at the Paris conservatory.
Withgrowing success this much in demand double bass player has played withmany big name Jazz players and regularly plays alongside GéraldineLaurent.

Laurent Bataille, Drums
At the end of his studies at the Dante Agostini national drum school, Laurent Bataille received the congratulations of the jury.
He continued his studies in Boston where he met his first musical collaborators with whom he toured and played at various european and international festivals..
Hethen met Géraldine Laurent who along with Yoni Zelnik then formed theTime Out trio, they then played at the Juan Les Pins Jazz competition.

Le suona
The Suona/Chinese Oboe
The instrument played bu Guo Yazhi – the Suona – is an old Chinese instrument, invented many centuries ago.
Similar to a trumpet this instrument was originally used in processions or to accompany theatrical performances.
The Suona gives life to animated, warm and exciting musical performances.

Guo Yazhi
Guo Yazhi has extended the capacities of the suona to contemporary music.
Thanks to his training at the Beijing music conservatory, he has rejvenated this musical instrument which saw him in 1995 rewarded by the Ministry of Culture.
Afterproducing several albums and becoming a teacher of high renknown, healso plays with various orchestras and famously played for Bill Clintonwhen he came to China.
