Jazz Mafia's Supertaster live at L.O.W. (look out weekend) June 5, 2009

Supertaster is the latest offshoot of the Jazz Mafia, San Francisco's eclectic and highly talented musical collective. Formed in late 2007, the band features Adam Theis on bass, trombone, and electronics, Jon Monahan on guitar and electronics, Matt Berkeley ..boards, and Joe Bagale on drums, vocals, and electronics.

Like many of the current crop of post-jazz groups, the band is able to generate large volumes of sound between the four of them; unlike many, they share an encyclopedic (and shameless) knowledge of pop, rock, and hip-hop music, reinventing these songs with every performance. The last few months have seen the band playing regularly at Bay Area festivals, museums, and lounges, backing up burlesque queens, and as the house band for the well-known Wednesday Night Sessions at Royale in North Beach. Supertaster is currently writing original music for an album. LOWsf and Jazz Mafia are hoping that this will be the begining of a monthly residency at LOOK OUT WEEKEND.

Dj Swayzee will be providing the hippity hop interludes this week.
