Ron Miles & Super Secret Messengers perform at Dazzle
to benefit Mission Supports
Jazz extraordinaire Ron Miles and improv navigators Super Secret Messengers, will perform at a fundraiser for Mission Supports. The benefit will be held on August 28 at 7 p.m. at Dazzle, 930 Lincoln St. Admission is $20 and seats are reserved by going to dazzlejazz.com or by calling 303-839-5100. The money raised at this event will cover the cost of staff training and start-up expenses.
The evening will feature the talent of trumpeter Ron Miles with pianist Eric Gunnison and drummer Alejandro Castano, as well as a unique performance by soundscape artist’s Super Secret Messengers. There will also be a small silent auction featuring items from local artists, and businesses.
Mission supports is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to the personal development and care of Denver area citizens who have intellectual or developmental disabilities, and are presently on the Medicaid waiver waiting list for funds and critical services.
Mission Supports’ executive director, Arnie Swenson, explains, “the waiting list issue is a national crisis and there are roughly two thousand wait-listed adults in the Denver area. Many of these folks would benefit greatly by accessing the community, discovering and pursuing interests, refining skills toward independence, and contributing to the community. The families and caregivers would also benefit by receiving some respite. Mission Supports soon will be ready to provide support and mentoring in some of these areas.”
Mission Supports boasts a self-sustainable business model with no building leases, office equipment expenses, or other traditional overhead costs. They employ only part time staff as “Direct Support Advocates” with an emphasis on training, and access free community venues such as public libraries, parks, and privately owned spaces for staff meetings, Respite Retreats, job training, and other activities.
