Son Volt's Jay Farrar and Death Cab for Cutie's Benjamin Gibbard composed the soundtrack for the upcoming documentary “One Fast Move or I’m Gone: Kerouac’s Big Sur”. Farrar and Gibbard, both fans of Kerouac's work, collaborated on twelve original songs inspired by the influential beat poet. The result is a compelling soundtrack filled with acoustic slide guitars, harmonicas, and duets between Farrar and Gibbard. The lyrics are based on the prose of Jack Kerouac's landmark 1962 novel Big Sur. They bring together down-tempo folk music with the dark, cynical sense of urgency of Kerouac's poetry. The soundtrack will be released on October 20 in conjunction with the feature-length documentary in which both Gibbard and Farrar appear.
