Java and Jazz April 2007

The arts come together during Comerica Java & Jazz…a coffee house series.

Detroit has long been known as a great jazz town. When you add the exciting art of spoken word into the mix, you have the Detroit Public Library’s 2007 Comerica Java and Jazz series. Celebrating its seventh season, Comerica Java & Jazz continues the tradition of providing a monthly after-work concert series that showcases some of Detroit’s finest creative talent.

The April 2007 concert features jazz/R&B performers Gerard Gibbs & ORGANized Crime and poetry duo Creative Tradition.

Gerard Gibbs & ORGANized Crime made their debut performance at the 1996 Ford Detroit International Jazz Festival. Since then, Gerard Gibbs & ORGANized Crime has enjoyed performing monthly at the world-famous Baker’s Keyboard Lounge in Detroit. The group’s career highlights include the release of the group’s debut CD – Gerard Gibbs & ORGANized Crime, “To Be or Not To B-3” (August 2001).

Creative Tradition consists of the poetry of Wardell Montgomery, Jr., accompanied by saxophonist Keith Gamble. The duo will grace the stage of the Detroit Public Library with a must-see performance. A poet and songwriter, Montgomery is also an author, editor, producer and performance artist.

Join us at the Detroit Public Library’s Main Library for a celebration of jazz and poetry while experiencing the amazing talent of performers of local and national acclaim. Performances are free and open to the public every third Tuesday of the month at 6:00pm through August (except June, when there will be a special Saturday concert).
